I've actually seen someone "loose control" of their car before.....in '88 we were coming home from the shore around 1 in the morning and the guy in the truck in front of us drifted off the right sholder into a park car that had stopped to rest. The truck did a 360 and wound up going across our side of the highway going off the medium on the left side, he then hit a sign which caused him to do another 360 with a roll. Amazingly the truck landed on all four wheels on the other side of the road facing the right way. The driver then took off. When the cops found the truck, only about 10 minutes later, the driver had abandoned it along some woods and was hiding in the woods. Turns out he didn't exactly loose control, but was drunk as hell.

#21, Well, I was zigg-zagging like crazy. I tried to countersteer but I kept missing the right moment to do it so it only made matters worse. After about 30 metres of dancing the car finally left the road. Dug out a long rut in a small embankement, bounced back, set itself perpendicular to the road and slid in between two thick trees. It continued to roll forward (another cliff was very close!) but stopped sliding to the side in soft dirt. I locked the wheels like a n00b (uh... I was a n00b), the car hit some bushes, the right side suddenly went up, the right front pressed against a tree, the car turned 90 degrees to the right and stopped... on two wheels, close to the mentioned cliff.
I tell you I could feel death close to me. And no, it wasn't funny.

The worse I've ever done was spin out while turning a corner. 1st time I going down an "offramp" if you know what one of those is here in the States, the 2nd time it was raining and I was turning into a street (glad there were no other cars coming) and just recently last winter I was going a bit too fast in the snow and spun out (again, glad there were no cars around). Each time it happened though I probably could have 541T myself. Can't even imangine what it was like for you. I probably would have had a heart attack and died. Funny thing with all of my spin out is I ended up facing the right way.

#23, I've spun a couple times.

#1 I had had my car about 6 months. I was driving on tha Mass Pike, backed up as always and took the exit at about 65-70 because I was pissed. I realized I was going to fast for damp roads and hit the brakes hard. The car started to spin toward the guardrail, so I whipped the wheel the other way, reversed the spin, end ended up in a field no worse for wear.

#2, On snow with bald tires. Fortunately I was going like 5mph on and empty road and just floated gracefully to the other side.

The most scary thing is when I got my car up to 105mph on 495 in MA. I was doing fine, moved to the middle lane to pass a van, and then for no forseeable reason, a truck in the right lane suddenly moved to the middle. (They were the absolute only cars for miles) I tapped the brake and tried to switch to the right lane. It veered, hard. So, I used lessons I learned from sitting on a skateboard -- undercompensate. So I turned the wheel about half as far as I thought it needed to go, and veered less hard to the right, so I did the same to the left, etc etc. I must have looked funny veering back and forth between all 3 lanes! I turned it just a little bit less each time, and eventually got it back under control. That's when my own mortality hit me and I almost had a heart attack. Fortunately, I had gotten new tires by then.
